The Eleison team continues to expand our community mental health education program in 2025. Mental health remains highly stigmatized in many communities, making it challenging for individuals to seek the help and support they need when struggling with mental health day-to-day or during periods of acute crisis. Mental health education is vital because it helps individuals identify and address mental health issues early, reducing stigma and encouraging timely intervention. It equips people with essential coping strategies and emotional skills, leading to better overall well-being. Additionally, mental health education fosters stronger relationships and improved productivity in both personal and professional settings.
Our mental health workshops are interactive learning sessions designed to raise awareness and provide practical applications for promoting mental health and emotional wellness. We educate survivors, their families, at-risk youth, community members, and service providers about mental health, teaching concrete skills for cultivating mental and emotional wellness. Our educational sessions encourage open communication about mental health, combat mental health stigma, and create a space in which participants can express themselves freely without judgment.
Thus far in 2025, we have conducted a total of 13 mental health education workshops with 435 survivors, at-risk youth, community members, and service providers. With financial support from the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery and the Harry Shapiro Charitable Foundation, we will continue to broaden the reach of our mental health education throughout the rest of 2025. Our current modules cover: managing emotions, health and wellness, stress management and self-care, fostering healthy relationships, and promoting healthy interpersonal communication. Through these workshops, participants develop personalized strategies to support their mental and emotional wellness, learning how to tailor the skills they learn to their unique contexts and experiences.
