Eleison: A Women-Led Organization

In celebrating Women’s Month, we recognize women’s accomplishments and continue to challenge ongoing and emerging barriers to achieve women’s empowerment and gender equality. Given the deeply ingrained systematic barriers and societal norms that women experience, Eleison acknowledges that realizing gender equality requires challenging the traditional structures by taking a multifaceted, integrated approach to women’s empowerment, creating a transformative, long-lasting effect on gender norms.

Women-led organizations are often the first to respond to the needs of their communities at the onset of a crisis by providing essential services with gender sensitivity, often with little recognition and at a significant cost. However, women-led organizations face greater challenges in securing sustainable financial support for their operations. Eleison joins other women-led organizations around the world highlighting the importance of ensuring other community-based, women-led organizations can access the same financial support to continue to be responsive to communities in crisis.

As a women-led organization, Eleison is proud to continuously advocate for equal rights and opportunities for all genders while creating a more inclusive society. As we celebrate Women’s Month, a few Eleison staff shared their experiences working in a women-led organization and how it shaped their lives inside and outside the workplace. One of Eleison’s staff, Beau Marie Tinio, stated:

“Working within a women-led organization has allowed me to witness the strength that comes from diverse perspectives and collaborative decision-making. It is truly inspiring to work with a group of intelligent, driven women who prioritize empathy, compassion, and a commitment to address the pressing needs of underserved communities such as survivors of human trafficking and gender-based violence. Working in a women-led organization has not only enhanced my professional skills as a developmental worker, but it has also inspired me to be a stronger advocate for gender equality and women’s rights in all aspects of my life.”

Another staff, Mary Jhudielle Gicale-Villasin, said:

“It is such an inspiration to work in a women-led organization as a woman. There are few women-led organizations, so I am proud to be a part of one. Maintaining passion, positivity, and productivity is much easier when we feel genuine support and compassion inside and outside the workplace. I am extremely grateful for the team’s kindness, patience, guidance, and encouragement, which have helped me become more confident in my abilities.”
