Eleison joins Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT)

Eleison prioritizes fostering partnerships to strengthen united action against human trafficking. In October 2022, Eleison’s membership was approved by the Philippines Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking 7-Anti-Child Pornography-Violence against Women and their Children (IACAT 7-ACP-VAWC). IACAT is the body mandated by Philippine law to coordinate and monitor the implementation of Republic Act No. 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, with the Department of Justice as the lead agency.

As a member of the council, Eleison’s long-standing commitment to providing trauma-informed, evidence-based, culturally appropriate, and survivor-centered programs and services will be reinforced through collaborative efforts with other anti-trafficking advocates in Region 7, Philippines. We hope to make significant contributions as the council continues to carry out projects aimed at eliminating human trafficking in the Philippines, preventing trafficking from occurring, protecting and rehabilitating survivors, and convicting trafficking offenders.

When asked about the importance of Eleison being represented in IACAT, Ms. Ryco Sheen Mirafuentes, our Outreach and Training Associate, shared:

“Eleison Foundation’s membership in the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking further cements its commitment to provide programs and services to trafficking survivors. Being in the council opens up opportunities for Eleison to contribute to regional and national efforts to improve anti-trafficking mechanisms, sharing evidence-based knowledge and survivor-centered approaches.”

Eleison is looking forward to participating in activities with IACAT 7-ACP-VAWC. As the next step in our collaboration, we will participate in region-wide events in support of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women. Eleison stands in solidarity with government agencies, civil society organizations, and the local community in combating violence against women and girls. We remain steadfast in our commitment to zero tolerance for violence against women (VAW), and we will continue to initiate efforts within our means to support survivors in their recovery.
