We recently collaborated with our partner, California Baptist University (CBU) Division of Social Work, to provide a Motivational Interviewing (MI) training for 75 social workers in Cebu, Philippines. The joint training was hosted by the University of the Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) College of Social Work and conducted in partnership with the National Association for Social Work Education, Inc. (NASWEI) and the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI). We are delighted to be able to support practicing social workers in continuing to strengthen their clinical skills and serve their clients better using this person-centered approach.
MI is an evidence-based counseling approach that aims to strengthen a person’s motivation for and commitment to change. MI is proven to promote positive behavior change, increase client retention and engagement in services, and enhance client satisfaction with services. We express our thanks to our Advisory Board member, Dr. Jerri Middleton, an Assistant Professor from CBU’s Division of Social Work, for leading this training alongside the Eleison team. Our joint training integrated discussion of culturally and contextually-adapted MI techniques appropriate for the trainees’ practice contexts.
At Eleison, we offer introductory-level training in MI for individuals involved in providing social services. We offer options for in-person, virtual, or hybrid MI trainings for agencies globally. Organizations can contract with us for a 1-day, 1.5-day, or 2-day training, depending on the agency’s needs and priorities. If your agency is interested in our MI trainings, feel free to message us here! We’d love to learn more about your needs and interests.
