Eleison conducts capacity building for agencies serving survivors of human trafficking and gender-based violence. Many staff in anti-trafficking organizations in low-resource contexts have not received training pertaining to trauma, mental health, or evidence-based interventions. We train and mentor service providers in survivor-centered and evidence-based interventions with the ultimate goals of strengthening the quality of care for survivors and enhancing staff wellbeing.
In May 2022, Eleison provided Motivational Interviewing (MI) training for clinicians and behavioral specialists working with sexually exploited children and their families in the Philippines. MI is a humanistic, evidence-based counseling approach. MI is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion. Eleison’s MI training centers on MI that has been adapted for the Filipino cultural context.
MI provides staff with concrete tools for implementing a trauma-informed approach and respecting survivor autonomy and voice. MI also helps to enhance positive behavior change, client engagement and retention in services, and client satisfaction.
Upon completion of the training, trainees shared feedback regarding their experience in Eleison’s MI training:
“I like everything in the Introduction to Motivational Interviewing training. My favorite part was the application part of the theories discussed. Ms. Laura made sure we will be retaining all of the information shared in our training 🙂 I would like to give my appreciation to Ms. Laura for giving us this training. It really helped us a lot. Thank you!” – MI training participant
