Eleison has recently been awarded a security and well-being grant from the Urgent Action Fund Asia and Pacific (UAF A&P). The UAF A&P is a prominent rapid response fund that provides financial aid to individuals and organizations working towards social justice, security, and well-being in the Asia and Pacific region. UAF A&P’s security and well-being grant helps human rights organizations in Asia and the Pacific address urgent needs related to the safety of advocates and provide psychosocial counseling, treatment for trauma, and medical assistance to advocates.

Eleison is dedicated to the ongoing care for and wellbeing of advocates and survivor leaders. Our UAF A&P grant allows Eleison to expand psychosocial support programming so that survivor leaders and advocates have access to the necessary supportive care they need to achieve greater safety, well-being, and resilience while engaging in their advocacy work. This grant covers the following activities:

  • Crisis Intervention Services: Crisis intervention support will be available to survivor leaders as safety risks arise such as experiences of interpersonal violence in the home and community. Through these crisis services, we assess risks, provide immediate counseling and psychosocial support, connect leaders with additional emergency services in the community, and have a flexible emergency fund to cover urgent needs.
  • Psychosocial Support Sessions and Referrals: We will offer personalized psychosocial support to survivor leaders with mental health concerns, such as anxiety and depression. These sessions include individualized sessions with Eleison staff focusing on psychoeducation and strengthening coping, as well as group mental health educational activities for advocates. Topics for mental health education include self-care and managing emotions.
  • Support Group Meetings: We will organize support group meetings where survivor leaders can come together, share their experiences, and strengthen a sense of community in a safe and trusted environment. These sessions focus on building social connections, reducing isolation, and building peer support among survivor leaders.

Eleison’s receipt of the UAF A&P grant marks the beginning of a promising new partnership. With the grant’s assistance, we aim to expand our services and increase our impact by caring for the emotional and psychological well-being of survivor leaders and advocates. By providing leaders with greater support, we hope to amplify their positive impact in their communities.
